OttoPilot

How to use OttoPilot, Otto's AI assistant, to ask plain-language questions about clinic data and get suggested next steps.

OttoPilot is Otto's AI assistant, built for veterinary teams. Ask it a question about your clinic's own data β€” patient retention, revenue trends, campaign performance β€” and get a plain-language answer back in seconds, along with suggestions for what to do next.

Where to find it

OttoPilot lives on the Home and OttoPilot pages in Otto Flow. If your clinic is enrolled in truConnect or Hill's Connect, you'll see it in the left-hand navigation. If your clinic is not enrolled in truConnect or Hill’s Connect, it’s expected that at this time you do not have access to OttoPilot.

Getting started

When you open OttoPilot, you'll land on a welcome screen with a few example questions to get you going:

  • "How is my clinic's client visit volume changing year-over-year?"
  • "How is my average transaction charge changing month-over-month this year?"
  • "What's my revenue opportunity from at-risk patients? Also include the list of patients about to become at-risk in the next four weeks."
  • "Which of my patients are about to become at-risk in the next four weeks?"

You don't have to use one of these β€” type any question about your practice into the box at the bottom, the same way you'd text a colleague.

A real example: senior bloodwork

Here's what a full conversation looks like, start to finish.

The question: "What's our senior bloodwork attach rate looking like?"

The answer: OttoPilot pulls the relevant visits, shows a trend line for the current year against last year, and calls out the headline finding in plain terms β€” for example, that roughly 4 in 5 senior visits still don't include bloodwork, and exactly how many visits that added up to last month.

Keep going: Underneath the answer, OttoPilot offers a few natural next steps β€” things like "List seniors who missed bloodwork last month," "Compare dogs vs. cats," or "See provider breakdown." Clicking one (or just typing your own follow-up) drills into that same data without starting over.

Ask for a plan, not just a number: You can also ask something like "How do we increase our senior bloodwork acceptance?" and OttoPilot will turn the data into a short, practical playbook β€” concrete scripts for the exam room, ideas for pre-visit messaging, and where to focus first based on which age group has the most room to improve.

Tips for getting the best answers

  • Ask follow-ups. OttoPilot remembers the conversation, so "break that down by species" or "just show me the patient list" works without re-explaining what you're looking at.
  • Say the timeframe you mean. "This month," "year-over-year," and "last quarter" all get read literally β€” the more specific you are, the more specific the answer.
  • Ask for the list, not just the count. If you want names and contact info, ask for it directly β€” e.g. "list the patients," not just "how many patients."

What OttoPilot can see β€” and can't

Has access to:

  • Appointment, visit, and revenue trends
  • Lapsed and at-risk patient lists
  • New patient trends
  • truConnect / Hill's Connect campaign performance, for enrolled clinics

Doesn't have access to:

  • Today's live schedule β€” it updates overnight, not in real time
  • Appointment notes or treatment plans
  • New client counts β€” it can count new patients (pets), but can't reliably group those back up to households
  • Revenue/transaction detail for non-admin team members
  • Anyone's info on Trupanion's side, beyond a specific pet owner who's opted into an Exam Day Offer
πŸ’‘

Good mental model: OttoPilot is an always-on reporting layer over your practice data β€” not a live view of today's schedule, and not yet a place to look up an individual patient's medical history.

A note on accuracy

You'll see a reminder under the message box: OttoPilot can make mistakes, so double-check. Treat its answers the way you'd treat a fast first pass from a new team member β€” usually right, worth a glance before you act on anything that drives a big decision (like a revenue number you're about to share), and always worth telling us about if something looks off.

Frequently asked questions

Does Trupanion see my client list?

No. Trupanion only ever receives one specific pet owner's information, and only after that owner opts into an Exam Day Offer during their visit β€” never your full client list, and never anyone who didn't say yes.

Why can't OttoPilot see today's appointments?

OttoPilot is a reporting layer that updates overnight, not a live schedule view. Same-day scheduling questions are outside what it can answer right now.

Can everyone on my team ask about revenue?

Revenue and transaction questions require the clinic Admin role. Team members without that role will get a polite decline and can ask a clinic admin for access.

How much does OttoPilot cost?

It isn't sold on its own β€” it's included with truConnect and Hill's Connect programs.

Why did the numbers look a little different when I asked again?

OttoPilot is actively being improved, and its underlying data refreshes on its own schedule. If a number looks meaningfully off or inconsistent within the same conversation, let us know β€” that's exactly the kind of thing we want to hear about.

Can it tell me about a specific patient's case notes?

No β€” it can see the type of appointment (like "surgery"), but never clinical notes or treatment plans.
