This guide explains the Service Reminders smart link to Direct booking feature.
What this feature does
- Service Reminder messages includes a smart link that opens your online Direct booking in the Pet Portal
- Reduces back-and-forth by letting clients self‑schedule the recommended service in a few taps
- Supports SMS, email notifications and postcards.
How it works (at a glance)
- Flow identifies a patient with a due or overdue service based on your reminder rules
- The reminder message includes a smart link
- The link opens your clinic’s Direct Booking form in Pet Portal with the reason for appointment and pet pre-filled to ease your clients’ journey.
- Client picks a time, confirms details, and books an appointment directly into your calendar
Prerequisites
- Direct booking is enabled for your clinic and connected to your practice schedule
- At least one Service Reminder type is turned on.
Configuration steps
- Confirm Direct booking settings
- Verify clinic hours, providers, and appointment reasons are current. Check this article for in depth Direct booking settings.
- Enable the redirect in your Service Reminders configuration page
Under Settings > Service Reminder > toggle Send to Direct Booking on and the smart links will be created automatically.
Note: In case you have a custom URL in your email template, you will see the alert below.
For this scenario, you can either toggle the redirect OFF and keep the URL of your choice or update the URL to the one in the alert and toggle the redirect ON again.
