Fill-In-The-Blank Wildcards (FITB Wildcards) are a new type of wildcard that allows a Clinic User to create a form which prompts for entries at the time of sending. There is also an update to the form builder that improves wildcard validation.
Important things to know:
- Forms that use Fill-In-The-Blank (FITB) wildcards can only be sent manually. They cannot be attached to an automation. Forms using FITB wildcards will not show up in the list of available forms in the Automation Builder.
- Forms which are already in use by Automations cannot have a FITB wildcard added to them. You will be shown an error if you attempt to do so. You must remove the form from the Automation before you can add a FITB wildcard.
Creating or Updating a Form with Fill-In-The-Blank wildcards
Within the Form Editor page, there is a new entry in the wildcard dropdown. Clicking it will insert a new FITB wildcard at the cursor position within the text. You can add as many FITB wildcards as you need.
As you edit the text within the form question, the wildcards will show up with the {{ }} notation. Once you click out of the text box, the wildcards will be validated and shown as below.
If you see a mixture of validated wildcards and the {{ }} notation, the ones still in {{ }} are not valid wildcards and will not be filled in correctly.
Using a Form with Fill-In-The-Blank Wildcards
To use a form with FITB wildcards, attach it to a conversation as you usually would. After you select the form to attach, if it contains FITB wildcards, a popup will open to prompt you to…🥁….fill in the blanks.
As you fill in the prompted fields, the text will show inline in the preview so you can see how it will read.
If you hit the Cancel button, any text you have entered since the popup opened will be removed. If you hit Save, the current state will be saved. You can partially fill out the form and save it and come back to it later.
You can always finish filling out the blank fields or edit what you have entered before sending by clicking the Edit button on the form.
If you haven’t fully filled in the form by putting something in every FITB field, hitting the Send Message button will not send the message and will reopen the popup.
The Client will see the text with the values all filled in.
